Zach Russell Acquires Special Asphalt Products, Purchases SealMaster/Seattle Territory

Apr 29, 2024

With the Purchase of Special Asphalt Products and SealMaster/Seattle, Zach Russell, who also owns SealMaster/Portland, has increased his collective manufacturing and distribution locations from two to eight. New locations comprise a manufacturing plant in Albany, and cardlock distribution points in Medford and Oregon City, Ore.; a Spokane, Wash. storefront, and cardlock locations in Kennewick and Ridgefield, Wash.

In addition to acquiring Special Asphalt Products earlier this month, SealMaster/Portland Owner Zach Russell has purchased the SealMaster/Seattle territory.

With a 40-year legacy in the Pacific Northwest, Portland-based Special Asphalt Products manufactures pavement sealer and crack sealant; distributes equipment, maintenance products, and tools and accessories; and provides rental, repair and maintenance services.

The acquisition increased SealMaster locations from two to three in Oregon, and brought two strategic card lock distribution points in Oregon City and Medford. Along with the territory’s established Portland plant and Redmond storefront, the purchase adds a sealer and crack sealing manufacturing plant in Albany, Ore.

In Washington, the SealMaster/Seattle territory includes a Spokane storefront and cardlock locations in Kennewick and Ridgefield.

SealMaster/Portland will continue to manufacture Special Asphalt Products-branded materials emulsions and crack sealants at the Albany plant.

Territories Well Positioned for Pacific Northwest Pavement Maintenance Season

Beyond integrating Special Asphalt Products inventory, sales, accounting, and other administrative systems, retaining all Special Asphalt Products’ associates has afforded the advantage of turn-key manufacturing and sales in the territories. On a related note, Zach’s trucking fleet quadrupled with the acquisition.

“The scale of sales is larger,” says Zach of the impact of the acquisition, but “customers can still get the same products from the same sales representatives.” The acquisition will also provide a more seamless buying process for customers who previously purchased from both SealMaster and Special Asphalt.

As the integration proceeds, Special Asphalt Products and SealMaster associates will cross-train one another, in addition to attending SealMaster training programs at franchise headquarters in Sandusky, Ohio.
