POMONA, Calif. (Nov. 16, 2025) – Just one day after Doug Kalitta clinched his second NHRA Top Fuel championship in the last three years, NHRA officials made the unfortunate decision to cancel this weekend’s In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip due to persistent and adverse weather and unsafe track conditions.
After an exhaustive effort from the NHRA Safety Safari and following close consultation with safety officials this weekend, NHRA decided to cancel the race.
Kalitta entered this weekend’s event needing only to make a qualifying attempt to clinch the title. When rain forced cancelation of qualifying and set today’s field on points entering the event, Kalitta clinched the title. The 2025 title is the sixth for Kalitta Motorsports.
With the event cancelation, Kalitta Air 25th Anniversary driver Shawn Langdon, who entered the weekend second in points, now finishes the season in second giving Kalitta Motorsports its first one-two Top Fuel finish. It’s the second time a single team finished one-two in Top Fuel points. Schumacher Racing did it in 2012 when Antron Brown won the title, and Tony Schumacher finished second. DHL Funny Car driver J.R. Todd finished the season in 11th place.
“It’s kind of disappointing, really,” Kalitta said. “We were definitely hoping to get a shot at the track, but unfortunately, it needs a lot of work after all that rain. Even though the sun came out, the forecast still just isn’t looking good. It’s disappointing because this is definitely a race everybody wants to win, including me, at the end of the year. It’s just one of those deals. I’m real proud of both our Top Fuel teams for finishing first and second, Connie’s (Team Owner Connie Kalitta) happy we’re coming out of here one and two, and that’s pretty good.”
“We finished as well as we could as a team,” Langdon said. “It’s awesome to see – we’re all very happy for Doug and his team. Second is no reason to hang our heads. We had a great season and only lost to our teammate which is a good problem to have. We’re excited for Team Kalitta as a whole to finish one-two, and we’ll be excited to come back next year and go after that number one.”
“Our season definitely didn’t go the way we hoped, but our entire DHL GR Supra team is already working on next year,” Todd said. “Overall, it was a strong season for Team Kalitta, and we’re all really happy for Doug and his team.”
“While we explored every possible option to complete the event this weekend, the safety of our competitors, teams and fans remains the highest priority, which led to this difficult decision to cancel the event,” NHRA President Glen Cromwell said. “We thank the incredible NHRA community – and especially the fans for braving the elements – for their unwavering support throughout this challenging weekend and during an unforgettable 2025 season.”
