MADISON, NC—The town of Madison, North Carolina, recently re-colorized 18 imprinted, brick crosswalks, with the city’s maintenance crew performing the work, saving about 50 percent of what it would have cost had the labor been hired out. Madison Public Works Superintendent Keith Tucker inquired with SealMaster, which manufactures and distributes a full line of pavement maintenance and sport surfacing products and equipment, as to whether the town could perform the recoloring work internally.
SealMaster Carolinas’ owner Bob Krebs arranged training for Tuckers’ street maintenance crew on how to apply the company’s ColorPave HD asphalt coating to the crosswalks. SealMaster Business Development Manager Evan Sieler says, “We took a day to train the crew. They rented the equipment from us, and they quickly began successfully restoring the town’s crosswalks to their original, vibrant condition.”
The Madison maintenance staff completed the work in just two weeks. The North Carolina Department of Transportation funded the original installation of the imprinted crosswalks and color coating, which had worn off after a number of years. Krebs says ColorPave HD features “100-percent acrylic, cross-linking polymers for an extremely durable water-based, emulsified pavement color coating.”
