Question: What is sealcoating?
Answer: SealMaster® pavement sealers are designed to protect and beautify your asphalt driveway or parking lot. Sealcoating prevents oxidation of the asphaltic binder, prevents weather damage, reduces maintenance costs, and adds years of life to the pavement.

Question: When should an asphalt sealer be applied?
Answer: New asphalt should cure a minimum of 30 to 60 days. Once the asphalt is free from oils and sufficiently cured you can apply the sealer.

Question: At what temperatures should seal coat be applied?
Answer: You must have 50 degrees and rising for a 24 hour period.

Question:  What other weather requirements are needed when sealcoating?
Answer: You should not apply sealcoating if rain is imminent within a 24 hour period.

Question: How long should we keep vehicles off the surface after sealing?
Answer: Please give the seal coat 24 hours after the final coat to cure prior to opening back up to traffic.

Question: How should the asphalt be prepared before sealcoating?
Answer: Surfaces must be clean and free from all loose dirt and material. Pavement surfaces should be repaired with a suitable hot or cold asphalt mix. Cracks should be filled with SealMaster® hot or cold applied crack fillers. Treat all gas, oil or grease spots with SealMaster® PetroSeal™ or PrepSeal™.

Question: How is asphalt sealer applied?
Answer: Pavement sealer can be applied by brush, squeegee, or specialized spray equipment. Equipment shall be capable of spraying sealer with sand added.

Question: What are the coverage rates for SealMaster® sealer?
Answer: Coverage rates will vary based on the product. Follow the specification sheets for application rates. Apply two coats of sealer. A third coat may be applied to high traffic areas such as entrances, exits and drive lanes.

Question: What are the benefits to using additives in sealer?
Answer: Additives can assist in speeding up the dry time for additional coats of sealer, as well has help with sand suspension and reduce power steering marks.

Question: Is sand required for application?
Answer: Yes, clean silica sand should be included in the mix design. Sand provides slip resistance, helps with drying, and adds to the durability of the sealcoating material.

Question: Are SealMaster® products safe for anyone to use?
Answer: SealMaster® offers water-based asphaltic products and acrylic products that are environmentally and user-friendly.
