SealMaster Brings Manufacturing, Distribution to Utah – Please join us; RSVP to attend May 25 Open House

Salt Lake City, Utah—SealMaster, a leading global supplier of pavement maintenance supplies and equipment, has opened a manufacturing plant, distribution center and retail showroom in in West Valley City and will serve the entire state of Utah. The business will host an open house May 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will feature product and equipment demonstrations, food and beverages and the opportunity to meet SealMaster associates, along with manufacturers’ representatives. Those able to attend are asked to RSVP by calling (801) 252-8996, (801) 875-2607, or by emailing jmoody@sealmasterut.com.

With more than 100 privately owned locations nationwide, this is Lyle Moody’s second SealMaster franchise. He has owned SealMaster/Honolulu, the largest such supplier to the Hawaiian islands, for 14 years. The new business is located off Highway 201 at 6778 West 2100 South, the former home of A-1 Auto Parts.

SealMaster franchise owners manufacture pavement sealer and distribute a full line of pavement maintenance products and equipment, including crack sealants, pavement repair materials, traffic paints, dust suppressants, tools, accessories, sport surfacing products, and machines to apply all the materials. The brand is widely known for introducing franchising to pavement maintenance sourcing by standardizing quality, support, services and practices that “transformed an ugly duckling industry into a swan,” according to Pavement Maintenance & Reconstruction magazine.

Moody officially opened the Utah business last fall while simultaneously renovating a combined 13,000-square-foot warehouse, office space, and showroom; building a 5,500-square-foot addition; and training new employees. Members of the family who live in Utah serve in key leadership positions. Lyle’s son, former Hawaii Plant Manager John Moody relocated to Utah and serves as vice president. Son-in-law Shawn Ormond, who had worked for SealMaster/Honolulu for more than five years, now lives in Utah and manages operations.

Having family in the fastest growing U.S. state, and decades of experience in the asphalt industry, Lyle says he wanted to buy the territory before it was scooped up by someone else. “We’re glad to invest in our home state and contribute to the economy here,” says John. Shortly after the SealMaster franchise system announced a growth plan to introduce 12 new territories, buyers started moving fast, says Rick Simon, the system’s director of franchise operations. Manufacturing territories are large and protected and a limited number remain, unless a current owner would be willing to sell. Since the growth initiative was announced last year, new SealMaster territories were also purchased in Kansas City, Kan.; Boise, Idaho; and San Juan Puerto Rico.

The demand for pavement maintenance supplies and equipment continues to grow as private and public entities have shifted focus to pavement preservation vs. a previous approach of repair and replace. Pavement is among many public and private property owners’ largest capital assets. Simon says market demand has a number of SealMaster franchise owners building additions, establishing additional distribution points, and opening more showrooms. New manufacturing territories are available for purchase in Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Montana, the Dakotas, Nebraska, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Opportunities for distribution franchises are available in Wyoming, West Virginia, and New England.

Greensboro “Build Something” Mentoring Program to Welcome NHRA Top Fuel Driver Troy Coughlin, Jr.

Greensboro, N.C.–National Hot Rod Association Driver Troy Coughlin Jr., who pilots Kalitta Motorsports’ SealMaster Top Fuel Dragster, will visit the boys and young men of the Greensboro Build Something Mentor Program Wednesday, April 26, at 7 p.m. at the Bryan Family YMCA. Coughlin wants to meet them before they turn out for the National Hot Rod Association’s (NHRA) 4-wides to cheer him on at ZMAX Dragway in Concord. “I am excited to join the group on Wednesday and represent SealMaster in this capacity,” he says. “It is an awesome cause and it creates a great culture for these young men to learn a lot about life. I am jacked to be there.”

As a reward for the self-motivation of the program’s participants, they and some of their coaches will be VIP guests of SealMaster owner Bob Krebs Saturday, April 29. “We’re very grateful to Bob for this opportunity to get the kids out,” says Alexis Underwood, who founded and established Build Something in January 2016. “I’m very grateful to the Bryan Family YMCA, too, for allowing to use the space (to conduct the program).”

Underwood made the decision to create the program because he saw a need. “There’s a lot of negativity going on in society,” he says. “I wanted to help raise the standard of what I was seeing through my 17 years’ experience in mental health.” Core components of the program center on physical fitness and healthy lifestyle living, learning opportunities, community service and the availability of an adult sounding board composed of adult coaches who serve as positive role models. The group meets every Saturday, starting out with a prayer, after which a guest speaker shares wisdom. They work out for 45 minutes then have open gym. They close the evening with a discussion on speaker. Topics include financial education and budgeting, etiquette, even how to tie a tie, among others. “Things men need to learn,” notes Underwood. Speakers can be program coaches, members of the clergy or community organizations—anyone who has a valuable lesson to share.

“The hook is the workout,” says Underwood of attracting participants. “That’s what the kids come for. They get really excited about that.” Boys and young men in the program, ages 9 to 18, are motivated by getting or staying in shape, whether for personal fitness or to give them an edge in a sport. A lot of them are athletes.

Athleticism is encouraged although not required of the adult volunteers, including some of the participants’ fathers, who assist with the program. Athletes of the Elon College Football team have volunteered well. “They learn a lot too,” Underwood says of the collegians.

Krebs and Underwood are neighbors, which is how Krebs learned about Build Something and put plans for the outing in motion about a year ago. “It’s about giving back to the community. WE at SealMaster have this opportunity to take people to the NHRA races. We have been taking our customers.

Why not take these kids to experience something positive they’ve never seen? They’ll remember it for the rest of their lives.” The SealMaster franchise system partners with Kalitta Motorsports fielding the SealMaster Top Fuel Dragster piloted by Coughlin. It also partners with the NHRA as the title sponsor of the SealMaster Track Walk, which takes place the morning of the final day of competition. Part of the boys’ and VIP treatment will include motor coach transportation to the event and access to Kalitta Motorsports’ hospitality, which includes complimentary lunch, beverages and a place to take comfortable breaks in the shade during the all-day affair of bracket racing.

SealMaster Crew Chief Connie Kalitta Honored with First NHRA Lifetime Achievement Award

SealMaster Crew Chief and Kalitta Motorsports founder and owner Connie Kalitta was honored last night at the season-ending Mello Yello Awards banquet with NHRA’s Lifetime Achievement Award. This is the first time in NHRA history that this award has been given.

Kalitta’s honor received the first standing ovation of the evening as NHRA President Peter Clifford addressed the crowd with some of Kalitta’s incredible achievements. A video tribute followed with all four of Kalitta’s current full-time drivers: Alexis DeJoria, Doug Kalitta, J.R. Todd and Del Worsham, team Vice-President of Operations Jim Oberhofer, NHRA legends Don Prudhomme and Tom McEwen, and rival team owners John Force and Don Schumacher speaking on what Kalitta meant to the sport and how far reaching his impact has truly been.

Escorted to the stage by Oberhofer, nephew Doug Kalitta and grandson Corey Kalitta, son of the late Scott Kalitta, Connie Kalitta recieved his one-of-a-kind trophy and made remarks.

“I am not usually at a loss for words,” said Kalitta. “Thank you for this. I appreciate everything that each of you said in that piece. I am honored to receive such an award.”

Kalitta, known as “The Bounty Hunter” as a driver, was the first racer to reach the 200 mph mark at an NHRA sanctioned event. He was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1992 and won the U.S. Nationals in 1994. On NHRA’s 50th anniversary in 2001, he was named one of the NHRA’s Top 50 Drivers.

His team, Kalitta Motorsports, ended 2016 with their most successful season on record as Team Kalitta’s four full-time teams earned a combined 131 round wins. Kalitta will continue to have a major part of the NHRA for many years to come as his team expands to six entries beginning in the 2017 season with rookie driver Troy Coughlin Jr. and veteran Paul Lee joining Team Kalitta on a part-time basis to compete alongside DeJoria, Kalitta, Todd and Worsham.

SealMaster will also enter into its fourth year headlining the NHRA SealMaster Track Walk, which kicks off before racing begins on the final day of each Mello Yello Series event. The tradition calls fans to the dragstrip to experience its sticky, glue-like traction first-hand with drivers and other celebrities who traditionally lead the walk.

“We’ve had three great seasons with Kalitta Motorsports and the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) and we’re looking forward to another in 2017,” says SealMaster Franchise Director Rick Simon. “Our brand is aligned with a talented driver on a highly regarded team, and it’s been wonderful connecting with NHRA fans. “It is always exciting to announce a partnership renewal, especially with SealMaster,” says Todd. They are truly some of the greatest people to work with. It has been an awesome season representing all of the incredible SealMaster franchisees and I am thrilled to be able to do the same for the entire 2017 season as well. I have been welcomed into the SealMaster family and they always come out in huge groups to support us on track as well. We did a lot of good this season, but I am ready to see what 2017 will offer in this SealMaster Toyota Top Fuel dragster.”

SealMaster franchisees manufacture pavement sealer and distribute a full line of pavement maintenance products and equipment throughout the United States, including Puerto Rico. Franchisees serve contractors, public and private road maintenance departments, property managers and others charged with pavement maintenance and preservation. The franchise system first signed with Kalitta Motorsports in 2014 as an associate partner of the Top Fuel dragsters driven by Kalitta and Todd. In 2015, the relationship expanded to the primary level for two races with Todd before becoming Todd’s title partner for the entire 2016 season.

Todd has taken the fan-favorite SealMaster scheme to his career-best season, with a new high in round wins and matching his rookie year total of four final round appearances. He gave SealMaster its first win as a primary partner with a victory at the Toyota Sonoma Nationals in July. Todd clinched his third consecutive Countdown for the Championship appearance with a semi-final effort in Seattle and has ranked among the top eight drivers in the Top Fuel standings after every race this season.

“SealMaster has truly embraced this program and it has been great to see,” says Jim Oberhofer, Vice President of Operations, Kalitta Motorsports. “Each week we welcome franchisees and their guests to the track, and to see the joy on their faces is awesome.
